Our Team
Joey Hughes President and CEO
Joey Hughes, the President and CEO of Tech Coach LA, is a visionary leader dedicated to the empowerment of youth through education and sports. With a distinguished history as a stellar athlete at Long Beach Poly High School and a full scholarship recipient at USC, Joey excelled in athletics, particularly in track and field, becoming a decorated 400m runner nationally. His achievements include multiple All-America honors, a silver medal at the NACAC U23 Championships, and significant contributions to USC’s track team in various capacities including team captain.
Joey’s passion for empowering youth stems deeply from personal experiences—born to a young mother and facing the challenges of his father’s incarceration during his formative years. Joey's leadership extends beyond athletic coaching to include a profound commitment to educational enrichment. He has crafted a multifaceted organization at TCLA that focuses on physical, intellectual, moral, and communal engagement through diverse programs including STEM Clubs, Environmental Clubs, Chess and Strategy Games, Drama and Theater, mentoring, and tutoring. His approach is solution-oriented, driven by a continuous commitment to leadership refinement and community impact.
Joey’s dedication is to nurture each young individual into becoming a resilient and capable leader, equipped to innovate and act with integrity. Leo Dubak Senior Coach
Hello, TCLA community! I’m Leonardo Alves Dubak, but you can call me Leo. Growing up, sports were a big part of my life—I actively participated in a variety of games, including soccer (known as football in my home country, Brazil), basketball, and more. This broad exposure to sports from a young age not only fueled my passion for the game but also equipped me with valuable insights into teamwork and discipline.
My father, an outstanding football (soccer) player, instilled in me the dedication that he carried for the game. This legacy inspired me to found a successful 7-a-side soccer team. I spent seven transformative years at the Ronaldo Academy in Brazil, a school founded by the legendary soccer star Ronaldo Fenômeno. There, I honed my abilities in coaching soccer, understanding child psychology, and fostering a strong sense of team spirit among young athletes.
At TCLA, I’m thrilled to continue the work that has been so dear to me—motivating kids to engage in physical activity rather than spending excessive time on electronic devices. My diverse sporting background during childhood uniquely positions me to connect with today’s youth and encourage them to try various sports. Here at TCLA, my goal is to leverage my extensive experience to inspire and educate our young athletes, enhancing their skills on the field while fostering their overall growth as disciplined, team-oriented individuals.
Join us on this exciting journey at TCLA, where we strive to nurture not just athletes, but well-rounded young champions in sports and in life.
